Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Department at Johnston Heights is dedicated to nurturing creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking through the exploration of theatre, music, and dance. We aim to develop students’ confidence, empathy, and global understanding by fostering artistic expression and an appreciation of diverse cultures.
Aligned with the IB philosophy, we inspire students to become inquisitive, reflective learners who engage with the world through performance and creative exploration. Through the performing arts, students gain the tools to express themselves authentically, work effectively in teams, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
The Performing Arts curriculum integrates music, theatre, and dance within the framework of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).We encourage interdisciplinary connections and place an emphasis on both individual and collaborative learning.
In MYP Performing Arts, students explore multiple artistic disciplines through practical and theoretical approaches. They develop skills in:
- Improvisation and scripted performances
- Musical composition and ensemble playing
- Choreography and movement
- Critical reflection through journaling and evaluation
Throughout MYP, students engage in performance-based projects while also learning to analyze artistic works and cultural traditions from around the world.
